Series Overview

In an alternate universe, mankind has harnessed the power to manipulate time. As we split the atom, they split the stream – the time stream which connects all realms. Greedy warlords co-opted this new source of power and plunged the world into a hellish cycle of death and destruction.

At the center of this world on fire lies the Forest of Aegis, a pristine sanctuary untouched by war. The pacifist Yaelenbrun tribe live there as shepherds of the forest. They use a naturally occurring substance called “elu” to craft medicines which have all but eradicated disease and premature death among the Yaelenbrun. Until recently, the massive forest of strongly rooted trees acted as a natural boundary protecting the tribe from invasion. But rumors of this valuable resource have drawn the attention of outsiders, some of whom have access to powerful technological advances birthed in war – monstrous machines driven by power-mad businessmen.

Mundbora, the leader of the Yaelenbrun, sends out a call for aid. Eight mercenaries answer this call. Day 7 tells the story of their struggle.

Character Bios

Narina is Apollo’s second in command. She has history with every mercenary except for Oriana. Narina also knows some of the Yaelenbrun’s language and understands their customs.

Apollo is chosen as the leader of the mercenaries because he knows the Yaelenbrun and the lay of the land. As a child, he ran away from the land of Danaar and found refuge with Mündbora.

Leader of the Sons of Talos. Wambim grew up with Apollo and considers him a deserter. He fights alongside his beloved, Phthalos Namaah, whose beauty is matched only by her lust for battle.

Aged veteran of the Wars Automata, Kluug is most comfortable in the chaos of battle.  He is close with Narina, who views him as an older brother.

An expert marksman. Ramer liberated herself and her comrades from slavery, now she works as an assassin for hire. She fights alongside Oriana, her paramour.

Spiritual leader of the Yaelenbrun. Mündbora sees the world through prophecy, which makes communicating with him difficult for normal folk.

Episode Synopses

Episode 1:  Day 1

Our heroes gather from distant lands. Some know each other well; others are complete strangers. They all must work together under Apollo’s leadership if they are to protect the Yaelenbrun. By the end of Day 1, they seem to be on the right track. They capture three LORe Corp scouts and destroy valuable mining equipment, all without losing a single life on either side. But there are disagreements on how best to proceed. Kluug argues that they should escalate the conflict. Apollo and the Yaelenbrun disagree, urging restrained resistance instead. Begrudgingly, Kluug agrees to keep it cool. Meanwhile, dark memories, told in flashbacks, haunt Apollo’s mind.

Episode 2:  Day 2

As Apollo and the others plan their next move, LORe Corp strikes. A security force attacks a defenseless farmstead on the outskirts of the village, killing dozens of civilians. Kluug demands retaliation, but Apollo’s first concern is evacuating the village. Adam Varnes, a veteran war hero and recovering addict, sides with Kluug. As they argue, the Yaelenbrun mourn their dead and make elaborate funeral preparations. The mercenaries set aside their differences to assist the with the rituals, and Varnes’s history is revealed through flashbacks that juxtapose the story of war with the reality of war. In the present, Kluug and a few others are bent on swift vengeance, while Apollo and the rest are more concerned with the safety of the Yaelenbrun, who struggle themselves to deal with the impact of so much death.

Episode 3:  Day 3

Apollo divides their forces: he and Narina will lead the Yaelenbrun elders and children to the nearby city of Koba, while Kluug and the others defend the village. Instead, Kluug leads an attack on the LORe Corp security force that results in the destruction of a paddock of eyo, an animal sacred to the Yaelenbrun. As Yasuji and Bone help with the funeral rites, more is revealed about their friendship and how they came to be here. On the path to Koba, Apollo encounters Murphy, a LORe Corp deserter. Murphy travels with Apollo to Koba and promises to return to Aegis with valuable intelligence about Lore Corp’s plans. Day 3 ends with an odd mix of hope and death. Apollo and his team have saved many lives, but Kluug’s actions threaten to undo everything.

Episode 4:  Day 4

Apollo and Narina must reunite their fractured forces and mend things with the Yaelenbrun, who view the deaths of their eyo as a near-unforgivable offense. As punishment for killing the sacred animals, Apollo orders Kluug, Ramer, and Varnes to haul their equipment to the new camp without the help of eyo. On this hard journey, Kluug wades through painful memories of incarceration at Everstorm Prison – a POW labor facility floating high above the clouds. Once the new camp is set up, Mündbora invites everyone to a feast in the middle of an ancient grove of giant glowing mushrooms. The mercenaries find it difficult to relax, but eventually they start to come together. LORe Corp marches on. With their security force defeated, they seek out other ways to protect their equipment and personnel.

Episode 5:  Day 5

A new villain emerges: Wambïm, leader of the Sons of Talos and boyhood nemesis of Apollo. Wielding magical swords and deadly steam-powered guns, Wambïm and his cult-like band of warriors arrive to escort the machine to its destination. Together with his betrothed, Phthalos Namaah, Wambïm moves with the winds of destiny at his back. The LORe Corp workers are uneasy around these new companions, but they are thankful that they are on the same side. Apollo orders Oriana and Bone to meet Murphy, who promised to deliver intelligence at a predetermined location. The main group lead all surviving Yaelenbrun and eyo underground, closer to the precious elum crystals. LORe Corp drillers attempt to flood the caves, but Kluug and Apollo fight them back. The mercenaries are unaware that the Sons of Talos have arrived, but Apollo senses a growing threat.

Episode 6:  Day 6

Ramer sits at the edge of a golden field, marksman’s eyes sharp for movement. Memories fade into reality as she remembers her childhood enslavement in the Dust River Territories. Nearby, the Sons of Talos ambush Oriana and Bone. Oriana takes down two of them, but Phthalos Namaah, a beautiful warrior demoness fights through the gunfire and kills Oriana. Bone flees, Namaah in pursuit. Ramer spots Bone running through the field and downs Namaah with one shot. Bone runs to safety. Ramer scans the treeline for Oriana, her love, but knows she will never come.  Bone returns to camp with a schematic for a mining machine unlike any other. Ramer returns with Namaah’s ceremonial blade, and Apollo and Kluug register recognition. The shadowy threat that has haunted Apollo since Day 1 lies before him in the form of blood-soaked steel. As the mercenaries prepare for battle, the Sons of Talos make their move. The piercing light of their flares bathe the night in a blood-red hue. Apollo remembers his mother. She sacrificed herself so that he may live to fulfill a greater purpose. Could this be it?

Episode 7:  Day 7

The Sons attack at dawn. As Ramer fills her rifle’s water-cans, Wambïm strikes. Ramer fights valiantly but falls under Wambïm’s crushing blows. She fires a warning shot as she dies. The six remaining mercenaries take down countless Sons, but they just keep coming. One by one, the mercenaries are slain until only Apollo and Narina remain. Apollo crosses swords with Wambïm in ritualistic combat. Narina has one chance to intervene, but Apollo waves her off. Apollo keeps the fight going long enough for Narina to escape, and then he surrenders his life to Wambïm’s wrath. Narina is nearly killed in an explosion. Mündbora rescues her and heals her wounds. As she flees to the nearby city of Koba, LORe Corp’s machine destroys the temple and penetrates the caves where Mündbora sits calmly playing his flute for the final time.

Episode 8:  After

Narina carries the mysterious artifact given to her by Mündbora as she struggles to escape the forest. Wambïm carries nothing but loss: most of his comrades, his betrothed, and his life’s goal, Apollo. While Narina fears for her life, Wambïm finds that he has no life to fear for. Narina hijacks a LORe Corp transport and narrowly escapes to Koba. She seeks insight about the strange artifact, and is pointed to Forest Heights, a city on the edge of upheaval. Wambïm returns home to a hero’s welcome. Summoned to a meeting with Talos Lamia, goddess incarnate, Wambïm learns a hard truth about his people and his plight. Narina and Wambïm spiral outward into the world after the death of Apollo. One bears the enigmatic mystery of a higher purpose; the other bears the heavy self-knowledge of a wasted life. Thus unleashed upon the world, these two forces will continue to collide, intertwine, and comingle in new and unpredictable ways as the drama of Time unfolds.
